Measuring Heat Stress in Sub-Arctic Salmon
Madeline Lee, a KBCS board member, has collected hundreds of muscle biopsies in Chinook salmon on the Ninilchik River over the past 2 years to assess whether there is a presence of heat stress during their summer migration to spawning grounds.
She has put together preliminary results of her field work in this story map and is pursuing a Master’s in Fisheries at University of Alaska Fairbanks to better understand the impacts of a warming climate on our local salmon populations.
